Position Summary
The Chicago School University Library seeks a service-focused, innovative and collaborative librarian to support nursing and health science education. The Health Sciences Librarian provides research assistance, instruction, collection development, and outreach to the College of Nursing and Applied Health Professions and our Dallas branch library. The Health Sciences Librarian also coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Dallas Branch Library. The person selected for this role will also work closely with the Instruction & Student Engagement Librarian to develop programming that meets future nurses and other health professionals' academic and educational needs.

The Chicago School University Library supports over 30 degree types, mostly in the fields of psychology, behavioral science, nursing, and the health professions. The University Library is a young department and is building 21st Century services to meet a mostly graduate-level institution's needs. Responsibilities of the Health Sciences Librarian:

  • Operations:
    • Manage day to day operations of the Dallas Branch of the University Library
    • Hire,train and supervise student employees to support library operations
  • Research Support & Services:
    • Serves as the primary liaison to the Dallas Campus and the College of Nursing and Advanced Health Professions
    • Collaborate with the Instruction & Student Engagement Librarian to design and deliver services, instruction and programming to all TCSPP Students
    • Provide reference and research consultations. May include some night and weekend virtual reference hours.
    • Collaborate with librarians across the University Library to support initiatives including Open Access, Open Educational resources, data management services, and data visualization.
  • Instruction:
    • Teaches course-related library instruction sessions both in-person and online
    • Create and maintain library subject and course guides (LibGuides)
  • Collection Development & Maintenance:
    • Identify and suggest options for growing the Dallas Branch collection (TCSPP University Library is a digital-first library) and actively assessing and maintaining the physical collection, including deselection.
    • Copy catalog new physical items as they are added to Dallas Branch collection
    • Maintain Dallas Branch's psychological assessment and test kit collection
  • Service to University:
    • Actively participate and demonstrate leadership in University and Campus Committees and initiatives

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience (Required)
    • ALA-Accredited (or international equivalent) graduate degree in Library and Information Science, or completion of such degree 6 months after hire.
  • Educational Experience (Preferred)
    • Undergraduate degree in health or life sciences
    • Advanced degree in Public Health, Health Service Administration, Nursing, or related field or in the field of instructional design
    • Coursework in medical/health sciences librarianship
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Behaviors
    • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking and reading Spanish
    • Knowledge of current research and information sources in broad range of health and social science disciplines
    • Knowledge of a variety of information resources (across disciplines and formats) in the field of health sciences
    • Knowledge of contributing factors to student persistence, success, and retention in undergraduate and graduate education
    • Knowledge of current learning theory and pedagogy in higher education and its implication for health sciences instruction
    • Ability to consult and advise faculty and staff around core nursing and health science reference tools and citation management software.
    • Ability to work collegially with others in a collaborative team environment
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment
    • Ability to teach in a variety of setting and modalities (on-ground, online, group instruction, individual instruction)
    • Demonstrated understanding of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education
    • Participation in appropriate professional organizations
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect in the workplace
  • Additional Preferred Skills
    • Experience conducting systematic reviews or meta-analyses
    • Experience using Ex Libris services (Alma, Primo, Leganto)
    • Experience with Springshare Products including: LibAnswers, LibGuides, LibCal
    • Evidence of or potential for professional and scholarly activity
    • Knowledge of Psychological Assessments and other assessments
